Wolfsburg has announced today that head coach Tommy Stroot has resigned from his position. The 36-year-old leaves the club effective immediately and Wolfsburg will announce his replacement in time.

According to the club, the news “hit them hard” after the coach extended his contract with the VfL Women last year until June 30, 2027.

“But in this football business, we also have to consider the human factor. Tommy has been very honest with himself, but also with the club. We respect that and have come to the conclusion together that this is the best solution for everyone involved,” said the club’s Managing Director, Peter Christiansen.

It is no news that VfL Wolfsburg has not been the successful club people were used to watching in previous years and that the supporters and fans are not happy with the team’s performances on the field. Of course, Stroot also wasn’t pleased.

“I’ve noticed in recent weeks that I no longer have the energy within me to live up to my own expectations and those of VfL Wolfsburg. This feeling isn’t familiar to me, and it prompted me to reflect and act. Always with the goal of doing the best for the club and my team. I made this decision in my responsibility as head coach to the club, my players, and the staff. I would like to thank the management, the staff, and the players for the successful collaboration and wish the club all the best,” said Tommy Stroot.

Although Wolfsburg has won many trophies under his leadership, there has also been an exodus of players from the club in recent months. Additionally, there was a lack of results and failing short in the domestic and international competitions.

Right now, they sit third in the Frauen Bundesliga table and were just eliminated from the UWCL (UEFA Women’s Champions League) last week after being beaten by Barcelona (aggregate 10-2).
