The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has cautioned the public against attacking fire officers.
Over the period, personnel of the Fire Service have come under attack over alleged delays in responding to emergencies.

However, speaking at the commissioning of a new fire station at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, the minister warned that anyone arrested for assaulting fire officers will be prosecuted.

“We are going to enhance the safety of our staff from the national fire service. This is a collaboration with the Ghana Police Service. Anytime our fire fighters move to a fire site or move to a place for rescue, the police will be in their company for those who find it interesting to attack them, will be immediately arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye urged the public to also take proactive steps to prevent fire outbreaks.

” We must all be reminded that safety is shared responsibility. Fire fighters will be there, ready to respond but we as a community must continue to support them, respect their work and take proactive steps towards fire prevention and emergency preparedness,” he added.
