REAL MADRID CAN WIN AN EXTRA $156 MILLION THIS SUMMER,REPORT MARCA

0

Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid can get its hands on a bonus payment of $156 million providing it wins the newly-designed Club World Cup in the United States this summer which cited anonymous sources.

have reported how the organizer of the tournament FIFA plans to distribute $1 billion among the 32 participants, who will try to go all the way on American soil between June 14 and July 13.

As MARCA points out, this is the largest prize money ever distributed in a club soccer tournament, and the newspaper believes that one of the reasons for such a generous payout is the fact that the tournament held every four years has already been heavily criticized before it’s had a chance to get off the ground. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti  and he had to rectify comments made held at the end of the European club season plus the height of summer. While behind the scenes Madrid – ravaged by injuries this term – might not be keen on going across the Atlantic, it has a considerable financial incentive to do so as highlighted by MARCA

The outlet explains that Madrid is the club with the largest amount of money guaranteed before the start of the tournament – $38 million (€35 million) – which is consists of fixed sums and other amounts that correspond to attendance figures and “the commercial attractiveness” of each entity.

Semifinalists get $21.6 million (€20 million), while each finalist is in line for $30 million (€28 million) and the winner will be lavished with $40 million (€37 million).

In total then, Real Madrid can replenish its coffers with around $156 million (€145 million) by winning all its group games and lifting the inaugural Club World Cup, which certainly gives Ancelotti and Co. food for thought.

With FC Barcelona missing out on qualification, Atletico Madrid is the second of two Spanish clubs that will feature at the tournament.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GHANA’S 68TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY: COST, CONTIGENTS, AND CUTBACKS

0

Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary will be marked on March 6, 2025, in a modest ceremony at the Presidency, departing from the traditional grand celebration at the Black Star Square.

The decision, taken by President John Dramani Mahama, is aimed at reducing costs and prioritizing government expenditure amid economic challenges.

The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that the policy of rotating the celebrations among regional capitals has been suspended due to its significant cost implications.

He also indicated that this year’s event will cost approximately 1.5million Ghana cedis.

“These celebrations came with significant costs, which, at the moment, the national purse cannot bear. So President Mahama took a decision a few weeks ago to scale down the celebrations and bring it to the Presidency,” he stated.

Highlighting the cost savings, he revealed: “I can reveal to you that the celebrations that will be held here tomorrow will cost a tenth of what it cost to hold this event in Koforidua last year. That event cost 15 million Ghana cedis, but the scaled-down celebration here will cost a fraction of that.”

Despite the reduction, he assured that the significance of the day remains intact.

“The Independence Day celebration is one that President Mahama takes very seriously. He believes that it must be celebrated, except that he thinks that it should be done in modesty and in a way that allows us to make savings that we can plough back into other areas of expenditure.”

What to expect on March 6

Unlike previous years where over 3,600 personnel and thousands of schoolchildren participated, this year’s celebration will feature a reduced contingent of just over 500 people, including security personnel and schoolchildren.

“In the past, there were 60 contingents made up of 60 men and women each. So you are talking close to 3,600 men and women and thousands of children who marched. Now everything has been scaled down to a little over 500 people,” Kwakye Ofosu explained.

HOW REAL MADRID EDGED ATLETICO MADRID TO TAKE 2:1 LEAD INTO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST 16 SECOND LEG

0

Real Madrid hold a slender advantage after a trio of great goals from Rodrygo, Julian Alvarez and Brahim Diaz

Real Madrid will take a 2-1 lead into the the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid.

Superb finishes from Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, either side of an even better strike from Julian Alvarez, led the European champions to victory at the Bernabéu against their closest rivals.

Rodrygo needed less than four minutes to give his side an early lead, thumping past Jan Oblak with his left foot. Alvarez found an even better finish half an hour later to level the score as his curling strike kissed the post on its way past Thibaut Courtois.

As Atletico looked to be dominating the game in the second half, some Brahim magic restored the hosts’ lead. He twisted and turned before firing into the bottom corner for what turned out to be the winning goal.

The second leg will be played 15 kilometres away at the Metropolitano on Wednesday next week.

This doesn’t feel like the first leg of a tie. There are spaces and both sides have a bit of urgency about them — at least for now.

A beautiful turn takes Brahim into the box. There is also a moment where he could probably take a tumble and call for a penalty as an arm comes out. I’m glad he doesn’t, even if there is minimal reward for him staying on his feet.
